Starting this week, most people entering Stockton City Hall are now required to pass through security screening including a metal detector and inspection of bags and backpacks.
Only uniformed, on-duty police and firefighters will be exempt from the procedures, which went into effect Monday and are intended to align the city with other federal, state and local government buildings, according to a municipal news release.
Signs will be posted prohibiting handguns, firearms, knives “or any object or instrument that could be used to inflict harm or injury to your person, another person, or property,” the city said.
“Community members attending a meeting in the Council Chambers, should arrive a few minutes early while we adjust to these new procedures,” Acting City Manager Will Crew said in the release.
A second screening will take place at the entry to the Council Chambers, where admission will be limited to the number of seats available, the city said.
