Several people were injured, and a “wide range” of property damage was reported in the Santa Cruz community of Scotts Valley over the weekend after a rare tornado hit the area, the National Weather Service said.
The storm’s damage classified the tornado as an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with a maximum wind speed of 90 mph, the weather service said in a preliminary report. The scale ranges from EF0, weak, to EF5, violent.
