The president of the Richmond police union has been appointed to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Benjamin Therriault, a sergeant in the Richmond Police Department, was named Friday to the panel, which sets minimum selection and training standards for California law enforcement. The position requires California Senate confirmation.
Therriault was promoted in 2023 after serving as a police officer in Richmond since 2009, according to the governor’s office. He was a military police officer in the U.S. Air Force from 2001 to 2007.
Therriault is vice president of the Peace Officers Research Association of California and a member of the Martinez Civil Service Commission and Martinez Refinery Oversight Commission.
He received a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of San Francisco.
