Liccardo, Simitian emerge as frontrunners in historic Silicon Valley congressional race

IN SILICON VALLEY’S most expensive and highly-anticipated race, two candidates have emerged as frontrunners in a crowded race to replace retiring Rep. Anna Eshoo in Congress — a once-in-a-generation contest that has captured national attention.

As of 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, former San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo led the pack of 11 candidates with 22 percent of the vote. He is trailed by Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian who secured 17.9 percent of the vote and Assemblymember Evan Low who netted 15.8 percent of the vote.
