The Lafayette City Council has announced it has appointed long-time resident John McCormick to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Councilmember Teresa Gerringer.
Gerringer announced her resignation from the council on Dec. 15, effective Jan. 23. Gerringer had served on the council since 2018 after spending 18 years on the Lafayette School District board.

McCormick will serve until the next municipal election in November.
Seven people applied for the seat and all were interviewed by the City Council on Monday. According to the city, the selection of McCormick was a unanimous decision.
McCormick has been a resident of Lafayette for more than 30 years and has raised two children there, the city said Tuesday. He owns the local music store Lamorinda Music and has served on the planning commission since 2023 and as the chair of the city’s Land Acknowledgement Task Force. He also sits on the boards for both the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the Park Theatre Trust. In 2021, he was voted Lafayette Business Person of the Year.
