Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter really wants to give its shelter pets new homes for the holidays.

The county animal shelter said it currently has too many pets right now, so it’s offering half-price adoption fees on most pets.

There are no adoption fees for pets over six years old has no adoption fee (a $29 license fee is required for dogs).

The adoption fee for puppies under six months old is down to $105 and $75 for adult dogs.

Kittens are $60, and adult cats $50. Rabbits are $35.

The reduced adoption fees still include vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, and a microchip to help protect the pet and get families off on the right paw for a long, healthy life together.

The shelter the incoming long holiday weekend is a great time to bring a pet home, since there’s more time to spend helping the pet adapt and get comfortable with new people, routines, and environments.

“Thanksgiving hasn’t happened yet, but our shelter is already stuffed with wonderful, but homeless pets,” said Jillian Ganley, the shelter’s supervisor. “We’re hoping folks will take advantage of this opportunity to get 100% of the fun and snuggles at just 50% of the cost.”

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter, at 1001 Rodriquez Ave, Santa Cruz, is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day (closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving).
