The San Francisco Public Library is offering a 49ers-themed library card to library users.

No, not the Santa Clara Library. They’re technically still the San Francisco 49ers, so the library is launching the campaign that may attract a few more football fans to the library.

The library issued a statement Thursday, saying the new card represents the unity of the San Francisco Bay Area community and its support for the local NFL team.

“The Niners have been an integral part of Bay Area pride for almost 80 years, and we’re excited to bring this card to the fans in our community,” says San Francisco Librarian Michael Lambert. “Like the ‘80s 49ers bomber jacket, this card is a classic, and I hope it inspires folks who may not be using the library to get their reading game on.”

Library patrons can pick up the newest addition to SFPL’s collection of cards at any library location. Fans who already have a library card can even swap their current one for this new one.

“The San Francisco Public Library’s 49ers-themed library card is a winning play for both football fans and book lovers,” says Ellie Caple, Director of Communications & Public Affairs for the San Francisco 49ers. “This is an exciting opportunity to promote literacy, celebrate the joy of reading, and bring the Bay Area community together.”

All California residents are eligible for an SFPL library card. Apply online and then present a valid photo ID in-person at any SFPL location to receive a card. Learn more at sfpl.org/welcome.
