Construction for a new fire station in Pescadero is set to begin Monday and will replace an aging, flood-prone building.

The 12,000-square-foot station will be located on higher ground at 340 Butano Cutoff. Firefighters currently use a station built in 1957 on Pescadero Creek Road, a building that has experienced repeated flooding and poses safety concerns for first responders.

The new station will include a solar-powered microgrid and a backup power system designed to continue operating during major outages, which have lasted as long as two weeks after significant storms. It will be built with emergency response facilities and living quarters.

Construction crews will begin working at the site on Monday, starting with site preparation, grading, and installing perimeter fencing.

The total cost of the project is $34 million. Construction is expected to cost $25.2 million, with the rest of the funding going toward design, project management, technology, furnishings, and other project-related costs.

Construction is expected to continue into 2027, with substantial work completed late that summer. A formal groundbreaking will be announced in the coming weeks.
