The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department announced the launch of the SF Nature Adventure Map on Friday, a free initiative designed to connect young people with nature.
The interactive map, created by SF Children & Nature in partnership with the SF Rec and several community organizations, features 35 destinations and outdoor experiences throughout the city, according to city officials.Â
The project highlights San Francisco’s urban ecology, including native plants, wildlife, and neighborhood green spaces.
Maps will be available in English, Spanish, and Chinese at all San Francisco public libraries and at eight featured locations where families can collect limited-edition stickers as they visit sites across the city.
Organizers said the initiative aims to encourage outdoor play, environmental awareness and community engagement while helping children and families discover parks, gardens, cultural spaces, and other natural areas close to home.
The map was illustrated by local artist Kaeli McLeod and developed with input from community partners, including the Presidio Trust, Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy and YMCA of Greater San Francisco, SF Rec and Park said.
A public celebration marking the launch is scheduled for June 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yerba Buena Gardens Fun Zone, located at Howard and Fourth streets, in conjunction with Library Day.
