The city of Lafayette is seeking three residents to join the new Multi-Modal Mobility Advisory Committee to provide input on Lafayette’s downtown urban design, transportation accessibility and BART.
The committee’s primary project is the Mt. Diablo Boulevard Corridor Multimodal Mobility Plan, or M3, which seeks to bolster the urban design in the multi-use corridor to focus on making it “easier and more appealing to get around downtown,” according to the city’s website.
The city is expecting more foot traffic with the new Mt. Diablo Boulevard Corridor apartment complex, which recently began construction and is estimated to have 31 units.
Additionally, a city news release said downtown Lafayette is home to the city’s BART station, schools, recreation activities and commercial core, making the goal of the committee to identify transportation network improvements for walking, biking and public transit circulation.
The Multi-Modal Mobility Advisory Committee is anticipating having two City Council members, one Transportation and Circulation Commission representative, one Planning Commission or Design Review Commission representative and three “at-large” Lafayette community members, according to the city website.
Committee members will be expected to draft recommendations and identify constraints for projects before they are brought to the City Council for formal consideration, according to city officials.
The advisory committee plans to meet every one to two months for an 18- to 24-month period starting late this summer. Applications are due June 14, and residents can learn more about how to apply online.
