Incumbent Mary Sackett is receiving strong support for the District 1 supervisor seat in Marin County. According to early returns, she has secured 80% of the race, with 3,997 votes in her favor. Her sole opponent, Mark Galperin, had 977 votes.
Sackett, who is a lawyer, served as an aide to then-Supervisor Damon Connolly, whose district seat she has held since 2022.
District 1, which covers the majority of San Rafael, is facing major infrastructure costs as sea level rise has increased the frequency and severity of flooding.
Sackett described sea level rise as a regional challenge requiring coordination among local governments, agencies and nonprofits to secure funding and advance countywide resilience projects.
Galperin is a former nuclear scientist. His campaign included the streamlined development of modular single-family homes, better access to STEM education and the construction of emergency shelters and supply depots. He questioned the urgency of large-scale climate adaptation spending, arguing that dredging creeks and supporting community-funded flood protection projects could reduce flooding at lower cost.
