This Saturday, Gualala Arts will present a new collection called “Brushes and Digits,” a solo exhibit created by local artist Mike Connor.
The exhibit will be held at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala, an arts and retail center that is an offshoot of the Gualala Arts organization. The Dolphin Gallery is staffed by volunteers and showcases art and crafts by artists from Mendocino and Sonoma counties.
In “Brushes and Digits,” Connor intertwines abstract painting with digital innovation. In a news release from Gualala Arts, the organization said Connor’s work “creates new compositions that blur the boundaries between analog and algorithmic, gesture and geometry.”
Connor was born in Minneapolis and had a brief stint at the Minneapolis School of Art before moving to California. In Silicon Valley, Connor worked for decades as a creative director for various advertising companies. After a near-death experience, he shifted his artistic pursuits and decided to create different forms of art outside his career as a creative director.
The “Brushes and Digits” exhibit will have its opening reception at the Dolphin Gallery on Saturday, Jan. 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit will be on display through Feb. 1.
