A recent meeting of the Sausalito City Council ended abruptly because of a cyberattack attempt, the city revealed Friday.
The cyberattack “was thwarted due to training and various security measures implemented” by city staff, according to Sausalito’s weekly city newsletter.
Due to security reasons, the city is not elaborating on the nature of the cyberattack but said authorities are assessing its scope and adding security measures to prevent future attacks.
Before the City Council went into closed session during its March 4 evening meeting, Mayor Joan Cox said an item had to be added to the closed session agenda “concerning the safety and security of the city’s operations.”

After returning to open session later Tuesday, Cox announced that the meeting was being adjourned out of “an abundance of caution because there is a threat that the city internet and computers may be under cyberattack.”
Items that were on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting have been postponed to future meetings. No other details about the case were immediately available.
