Schools in Santa Rosa are observing Career and Technical Education Month this February, officials said.
Career Technical Education teaches students a variety of skills in fields including construction, business management, agriculture, health care and engineering.
The Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education in January approved a resolution recognizing February as CTE Month.
The program is offered to high school students at all five of the city’s comprehensive school sites representing multiple industry sectors. It enables high school students to explore a career field of interest, experience hands-on learning, develop skills and meet graduation requirements, according to Santa Rosa City Schools Superintendent Anna Trunnell.
Elsie Allen High School, Maria Carrillo High School, Montgomery High School, Piner High School and Santa Rosa High School will participate in CTE Month activities throughout February, according to the district.
CTE Month is a public awareness campaign that occurs annually to celebrate CTE and the importance of the program for students of all ages.
Santa Rosa City Schools is the largest school district in Sonoma County, serving approximately 15,000 students in 24 schools.
