Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley appeared poised to retain his District 4 seat while Nikki Fortunato Bas and John Bauters are heading for a runoff election for the District 5 seat based on the early vote tally Tuesday night.

Miley was leading his sole opponent Jennifer Esteen by 7,502 votes to 4,345 votes with all precincts reporting.
Fortunato Bas was ahead of her eight opponents with 4,099 votes, while the second-place candidate, Bauters, had 3,083 votes.
Since neither candidate earned more than 50 percent of the vote, Bauters and Fortunato Bas will face off again in the Nov. 5 general election.
Miley was first elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors District 4 seat in 2000, has served six consecutive terms and was a member of the Oakland City Council before that.
His campaign website lists housing and homelessness, violence prevention, senior care and illegal dumping as among his priorities.
His endorsements include state Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Castro Valley, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, the California Nurses Association, the Sierra Club and the East Bay Association of Realtors, among others.
District 4 includes Castro Valley, most of Pleasanton and large parts of Oakland.

Fortunato Bas is an Oakland city councilmember who said her priorities as a county supervisor would include ending homelessness by expanding job creation, mental health and substance abuse programs and transitional housing.
Her endorsements include a bevy of labor organizations, including the California Nurses Association and the Alameda County Labor Council, as well as Skinner and Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, among others.
Bauters is an Emeryville city councilmember and former eviction defense attorney who says that he has prioritized “people-oriented cities, safe streets and equitable transportation choices,” according to his campaign website.
His endorsements include Alameda County Supervisor Elisa Marquez, Emeryville Mayor Courtney Welch, the Sierra Club and the East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club, among others.
Whoever wins the November election will replace long-time Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, who isn’t seeking reelection.
