Caltrans has broken ground on a $2.4 million public space with enhanced trails, landscaping, a skate park and fitness spaces near South San Francisco High School.
The four-acre Centennial Way Park South will include 130 new trees, drought-tolerant shrubs, and other beautification, Caltrans said in a press release on Saturday.
A trail through the area will be widened to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists and include energy-efficient lights. There will be picnic tables, fitness station and a bike repair station and outdoor classroom seating.
The project, to open by summer, is located along the South San Francisco Centennial recreation trail in the Orange Park and Lindenville neighborhoods, between South Spruce Avenue and West Orange Avenue.
