Stockton City Council member Paul Canepa has the lead against the city’s former vice mayor Elbert Holman Jr. in Tuesday’s election to represent District 2 on the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, according to the county’s unofficial election results.
Holman and Canepa, both natives of the county, advanced from the June primary election to take over current Supervisor Kathy Miller’s seat.
As of early Wednesday morning, Canepa held approximately 57 percent of the votes compared to about 43 percent for Holman.
While both opponents said they wanted to address homelessness if elected to the board, Canepa said he had a strategic plan to help the unsheltered population.
His plan included camping sites for unhoused people, providing outreach alongside nonprofits and faith-based organizations, a navigation center, and projects to create shelters in the city.
