Monterey County Supervisor Glenn Church appears to have defended his seat representing District 2 on the county Board of Supervisors, according to unofficial results Tuesday that showed him with a large lead over challenger Ramon Gomez.
With 96% of voting precincts reporting results, Church led with over 70% of the votes cast. He recorded 5,609 votes compared to Gomez’s 2,296.
Both candidates said repairing roads and keeping residents safe from floods and other disasters were priorities.
The district includes Aromas, Boronda, Castroville, Las Lomas, Moss Landing, North Salinas, Pajaro, Prunedale, and Royal Oaks.
Church led dozens of community meetings after floods in Pajaro inundated the small town in March 2023, and again last year following a massive fire at a battery energy storage system at Moss Landing. That might have given him some valuable face time with constituents as they sought answers and support from the county.
Gomez is a former Watsonville city councilmember and former fire director of the North County Fire Protection District.
The only other incumbent on the county Board of Supervisors up for reelection was District 3 representative Chris Lopez, who ran unopposed.
