The Contra Costa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District will begin construction June 1 on a levee improvement project designed to strengthen flood protection around the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District wastewater treatment plant in Martinez, according to county officials.
The project, scheduled to continue through Dec. 31, will raise the western levee along Grayson Creek and Walnut Creek between State Route 4 and the BNSF railroad tracks, county officials said.
Additionally, the work will help reduce flood risks to the treatment facility.
Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays, weather permitting.
Drivers may experience minor delays on Imhoff Drive near Grayson Creek, just east of the treatment plant, during the project.
