Alaska Airlines celebrated its inaugural flight from Oakland to San Diego on Wednesday, symbolizing the carrier’s continued expansion in both cities.

Four daily direct flights from Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport to San Diego International Airport will happen year-round and will be operated by the Embraer E175 aircraft with an average capacity of 76 seats.

“We’re thrilled that Alaska Airlines continues to invest in Oakland and expand its service offerings,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Craig Simon in an October news release when the flights were announced. “The new flights to San Diego will provide our travelers with more flexibility and convenience and will strengthen our role as a key gateway for intra-California travel.”

Alaska Airlines said the flights underscore its commitment to growing its presence in the San Francisco Bay Area and connecting the West Coast of the U.S.

“We’re excited to grow in Oakland with the addition of four daily, year-round flights to San Diego — offering an additional way to connect our guests in the vibrant Bay Area with dynamic Southern California,” said Kirsten Amrine, vice president of revenue management and network planning at Alaska Airlines.
