Alameda County officials are encouraging residents of District 3 to apply for seats on a wide range of county boards, commissions and committees, offering what they describe as a hands-on way to shape local policy and represent community voices.
The call for applicants includes openings or expiring terms in 2026 on bodies that advise on issues such as parks, public health, consumer affairs, human relations, arts, transportation and poverty reduction. County officials said civic boards play a key role in county decision-making and help guide policies that affect daily life across the region.
To qualify, applicants must live or work in District 3, which includes parts of Oakland — such as Jack London Square, Chinatown, Clinton, San Antonio and Fruitvale — as well as Alameda, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Hayward Acres.
Residents interested in serving must submit an application, resume and cover letter through the county’s online portal by 5 p.m. on Saturday. Interviews and nomination decisions may take place throughout 2026, with appointments brought before the county board during that period.
Among the openings are seats on the Parks, Recreation and Historical Commission; the Public Health Commission; the Reparations Commission; the Consumer Affairs Commission; the Human Relations Commission; the Alameda County Arts Commission; and the Eden Area Municipal Advisory Council. Incumbents whose terms expire in 2026 must reapply and compete with new applicants if they wish to be reappointed.
The county is also seeking applicants for the Alameda County-Oakland Community Action Partnership, or AC-OCAP, which works to reduce poverty. Two seats are open: one representing Oakland District 1 and one countywide community seat. Board members help develop and carry out local plans aimed at improving economic stability for low-income residents. The board meets monthly, and members may be reimbursed for costs such as childcare and transportation.
