Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said early Tuesday morning that power has been fully restored to all San Francisco customers affected by a weekend outage, as the city braces for another round of severe weather conditions expected to hit the Bay Area later in the day.
As of 4:31 a.m. Tuesday, electricity had been restored to the final 3,800 customers who were still without power following the outage caused by a fire at a San Francisco substation, PG&E said. At the height of the outage Saturday afternoon, about 130,000 customers across the city lost power, including many in the Civic Center and Richmond District.
The cause of the substation fire still remains to be confirmed.
Residential customers affected by the outage will automatically receive a $200 credit on their bills, while impacted business customers will receive a $2,500 credit, PG&E said. Customers do not need to take any action to receive the credits.
The restoration comes as PG&E prepares for an incoming storm system expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon. The company said its Emergency Operations Center and regional emergency centers are activated, with more than 5,500 frontline workers and contractors on storm duty, especially in areas expected to see the worst impacts.
Forecasters say heavy rain, strong winds, possible power outages and flooding are likely across the Bay Area and Central Coast through the rest of the week.
