A man who claimed his company made billions in profit from advanced robotics and space travel technology will serve more than four years in prison for defrauding investors — mostly veterans, their families and friends, federal prosecutors said.
Ramesh Kris Nathan, 43, was sentenced last week to 51 months behind bars for fraudulently obtaining investors’ money for a company that had no legitimate business activities, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California said in a news release.
Nathan was convicted in February of six counts of wire fraud and two counts of money laundering in connection with Relativity Research Fund Inc.
Nathan claimed the company “had significant capital investments, worldwide offices with over 15,000 employees, and tens of billions of dollars in profits and revenue,” prosecutors said. “He made false promises of future trading of the company’s shares on the Nasdaq Private Market.”
In reality, Nathan used the funds for his personal expenses or family transfers to his mother and his then-girlfriend, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. His investors “consisted primarily of veterans of the United States military or friends and family of veterans,” prosecutors said.
In addition to the prison term, Nathan was ordered to make restitution of approximately $300,000. He will begin serving his sentence on March 13, 2026, prosecutors said.
