Mayor Daniel Lurie recently celebrated the opening of the Oscar James Residences, a new affordable housing development in Bayview-Hunters Point that will provide 112 units for low-income households.
The project, named after longtime community advocate Oscar James, includes two fully electric buildings with environmentally friendly features and amenities such as a fitness center, community room, and landscaped courtyards, a news release noted.
The homes will serve families earning between 30% and 50% of the area’s median income.
“As we work to make San Francisco affordable for future generations, our administration will continue advancing projects that center affordable housing around the communities they serve — just like the Oscar James Residences,” said Mayor Lurie.
The development is part of the city’s broader effort to expand affordable housing across neighborhoods, the mayor said.
Recent projects include new sites in Sunnydale and the Outer Sunset, as well as 73 affordable units opened in Bayview earlier this year.
The Oscar James Residences were developed through a public-private partnership involving the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure, the California Department of Housing and Community Development, Jonathan Rose Companies, Bayview Senior Services, and Bank of America.
