Beginning Monday, regular Caltrain electric train service between San Jose Diridon and Tamien stations will be suspended for approximately eight months for planned bridge construction.
“We are aiming for February 2026,” says Caltrain spokesperson Dan Lieberman.
Free bus service provided by VTA will be available for travelers between the Tamien and San Jose Diridon stations. Buses will operate every 30 to 40 minutes, running from 5:35 a.m. to 11:55 p.m. on weekdays and 6:35 a.m. to 11:55 p.m. on weekends.
Caltrain services to San Jose Diridon are not expected to be affected. Caltrain’s South County Connector line is also expected to operate normally.
The agency plans to replace or extend two bridges crossing the Guadalupe River.

The northbound bridge, built in 1935, has fire damage and is being replaced by a new 265-foot concrete bridge. The southbound bridge, built in 1990, will be extended to 250 feet to avoid issues related to riverbank erosion.
The total cost of construction is estimated to be $171 million, with funding coming from federal, state, and local transit authorities. More information about the project is available on the Caltrain website.
