Fairfield police said Friday the mountain lion that spent part of Monday morning in a resident’s front yard may still be hanging around the neighborhood.
They also said on social media officers have named the big cat “Tail.”
Police posted more video, from Wednesday this time, showing the cat strolling down a sidewalk and jumping up on a fence in the area of Clay Bank Road and Air Base Parkway.
They said there’s also video evidence of the cat jumping into “several” backyards.
“Thus far, Tail has exhibited no behaviors that have given cause for concern,” police said. “We’ve been advised that, absent aggressive behaviors, (Department of) Fish and Wildlife will likely leave the animal be.”
Fairfield’s squirrels must be thrilled.
Police did warn people to stay away from the cat if they see it. All the activity so far has come late at night.
Residents should keep pets indoors and refrain from chasing, taking photos, or otherwise antagonizing the cat, if spotted. Police have said there’s a strong likelihood the cat will, or has already, returned to the hills from whence it came.
