San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has appointed two new members to the city’s Library Commission and reappointed one member to the library panel and one to the Human Services Commission.
“With these four appointments, I am confident that each one is committed to our libraries, our city, and our future,” Lurie said in a news release. “Their collective expertise, dedication, and passion for service will play a pivotal role as we work together to shape a brighter future for our city.”
New appointees to the Library Commission are Shawn Calhoun and Whitney Jones, succeeding Teresa Ono and Susan Mall.
Calhoun is the library dean at the University of San Franciso. In 2023, he co-led USF’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Initiative, raising over $1 million, according to the mayor’s office.
Jones served as vice president of Omni Women’s and Baby Merchandising at Banana Republic. She launched BR Baby and held leadership roles at Athleta and Old Navy.
Reappointed to the Library Commission was Pete Huang, who has served as a product manager for growth at Airtable. He was previously a consultant at McKinsey & Co.
Reappointed to the Human Services Commission was James McCray Jr., who has served as its vice president. For 25 years, he was senior minister at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.
