The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors has named a new interim county administrator, after terminating the contract of the previous county administrator.
Sandy Regalo, who has served in several roles in the county administrator’s office for the past 10 years, was named to replace Jerome Wilverding.
On March 12, the board of supervisors took a vote behind closed doors to place Wilverding on leave which the board said was “not for cause.”
Board Chair Miguel Villapudua was the only supervisor to vote against the action.
County officials said Regalo would serve in the role until they are able to name a permanent county administrator but was unclear how long that would take.
The county administrator implements the financial, budgetary, and legislative decisions made by the board, and advises the board on fiscal and budgetary matters.
“Sandy Regalo has been a steady and constant presence in San Joaquin County over the past 10 years,” Villapudua said.
Regalo recently held the role of assistant county administrator with duties that included oversight of budget, management of American Rescue Plan Program funding, crisis management, emergency planning and contingencies, retirement, and serving as a member of the treasury oversight committee.
“I want to thank the board of supervisors for their confidence in me,” Regalo said in a statement. “As I have told them individually, I am here to serve the people of San Joaquin County.”
Regalo’s annual salary will be $331,793.
