Voters have some in-person, early and vote-by-mail options for the Oakland Unified School District Board of Education District 5 special election on Tuesday.
The election features two candidates running to fill the empty OUSD school board seat — Jorge Lerma, a retired teacher and principal, and Sasha Ritzie-Hernandez, who is described as a coordinator on the Alameda County Registrar of Voters’ website.
The Registrar of Voters will be open for weekend voting and early, in-person voting at the Registrar of Voters’ office in Room G-1 inside the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse at 1225 Fallon St. or at a Vote Center in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood at 2725 International Blvd.
Both will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, which is Election Day.
On Monday, the Registrar will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Vote Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
People who want to drop off their vote-by-mail ballots at a Ballot Drop Stop can do so on Saturday, Sunday or Tuesday at 1225 Fallon St., at the Vote Center or at various locations listed on the county elections website.
The seat for District 5, which includes the Fruitvale District, has been vacant since earlier this year when Mike Hutchinson, now the school board’s president, was elected to the District 4 seat after his neighborhood was rezoned to that district.
