Sonoma County officials are warning seniors and other property owners about a tax scam spreading online and by phone that falsely claims people can reduce or freeze their property taxes by filing a nonexistent federal form.
In a statement Thursday, Sonoma County Clerk Deva Marie Proto and County Auditor Erick Roeser said the scam promotes a so-called “Form 1098-SR” and claims it can also help property owners avoid school bonds.
