All categories of crime decreased in California from 2024 to 2025, with 2025 seeing the lowest rates of homicides and shootings on record, according to crime reports released Wednesday by the state Department of Justice.

“The big takeaway is this: 2025 saw massive reductions in crime across the board,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta in a briefing in San Francisco on Wednesday. “We have record lows, and that’s worth taking a moment to applaud and uplift.”
