The Port of Oakland will offer a series of free public harbor tours from June through October, giving residents an up-close look at the port’s maritime operations and its role in the regional economy, port officials announced earlier this month.

The 90-minute narrated boat tours will take passengers through the Oakland Estuary and San Francisco Bay, showcasing shipping facilities, cargo vessels, and the port’s iconic cranes while providing information about port history, operations, and environmental initiatives.

The tours will depart from the Oakland Ferry Terminal in Jack London Square on one Friday evening each month. The first cruise was scheduled for June 12, with additional tours planned for July, August, September, and October.

Schedule are as follows:

  • July 10 – 6:45 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. (Registration: June 30, 8:00 p.m.)
  • Aug. 14 – 6:45 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. (Registration: Aug. 4, 8:00 p.m.)
  • Sept. 25 – 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (Registration: Sept. 15, 8:00 p.m.)
  • Oct. 16 – 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (Oct. 6, 8:00 p.m.)

Tickets are free and available online on a first-come, first-served basis beginning two weeks before each tour date, according to port officials.

Port officials said demand is high, with tickets often claimed within minutes of registration opening. Each cruise can accommodate about 250 passengers.

Guests also will have views of the Oakland and San Francisco skylines during the evening cruises.
