The San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families will offer free breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to children and teens 18 and younger this summer through its annual Free Summer Meals Program, city officials announced Friday.
Meals will be available Monday through Friday from June 15 through Aug. 14 at sites across the city. No registration, identification, or proof of need is required, city officials said.
The department said it is sponsoring 39 meal sites this year, including 14 open to all children and youth, and 25 serving participants enrolled in summer programs at those locations.
The agency has sponsored the program for 29 years and serves more than 100,000 meals each summer in partnership with federal, state, and local organizations.
“For many children and youth in San Francisco, the meals they receive at school are the most reliable meals of the day,” said DCYF Executive Director Sherrice Dorsey-Smith. “The Free Summer Meals Program helps ensure young people have access to healthy food when school is out.”
Information about meal locations is available through the city’s Summer Meals website, the CA Meals for Kids app, or by calling 311 or 211.Â
