Fairfield High School’s graduation ceremony has been relocated following a shooting after a graduation ceremony for students of Sem Yeto Continuation High School on Wednesday night, according to officials with the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District.
The shooting, which broke out in the school’s parking lot, resulted in the hospitalization of three people, aged 11, 20 and 25, and the death of another, 18, who succumbed to gunshot wounds.
The Fairfield High School Class of 2026 graduation, which is scheduled for Friday, will now be held at the Armijo High School Stadium. Because Armijo High has lower capacity, school officials said each senior will be limited to no more than six tickets.
“What should have been a joyful celebration of our graduates was overshadowed by an act of violence that has left students, families, staff and community members feeling shaken and heartbroken,” reads a district statement.
Classes at Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District campuses continued as originally scheduled. Mental health teams were provided by the district for Sem Yeto students and staff on Thursday, the final day of classes for middle school and high school students in the district. Friday is the final day of classes at district elementary schools.
Sem Yeto Continuation High School has two campuses: The main site on the campus of Fairfield High, and a satellite campus at Armijo High School. Around 300 students attend the school, which was founded in 1980.
“Further, district staff will be on site for additional support. If your student attends another FSUSD school and needs support, please contact the school office,” the district’s statement said.
