The Jewish Community Center of the East Bay announced Wednesday that a “first-of-its-kind” regional community campus will be opening in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood this fall.

The 3-acre East Bay Jewish Community Campus, also the new home for the JCC, is set to house 20 Jewish organizations and aims to establish a central hub for co-creation and innovation between groups and community members.

“This shared home for leading Jewish organizations will strengthen community bonds, expand partnerships, and help ensure a strong and dynamic future for generations to come.” said Steven Douglas, JCC East Bay and East Bay Jewish Community Campus Board President, in a news release.

Douglas added that the goals of the center are to provide a welcoming home for all ages and backgrounds and represents a transformational investment into the Jewish community.

The campus will also include a 200-person performance venue and an outdoor flex space that aims to provide year-round programing for “national and international artists and thinkers.”

In addition, space will be given to programs that focus on early childhood education, wellness, learning and community all rooted in Jewish values.

Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee welcomed news of the center and said it will transform the site into a “flourish up of activity” and looked forward to celebrating the grand opening.

“This facility will provide critical early childcare services, generate economic returns for the neighborhood, and serve as a vital cultural gathering point,” Lee said.

The campus will be located at 5957 Chabot Road, between College Avenue and Claremont Avenue in Oakland at the former headquarters for Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream. The planned opening for donors will occur this August, with a full grand opening to the public slated for early 2027.
