The San Mateo Police Department has introduced K-9 Quinn, a specially trained electronic storage detection dog that will also serve in community outreach and support roles.

Quinn, a 3-year-old Labrador retriever, recently completed a 100-hour electronic storage detection training program with handler Detective Kyle Cambron through the United States Secret Service in Hoover, Alabama, San Mateo police said.

Police said Quinn is trained to detect concealed electronic storage devices, including cellphones, micro SD cards, tablets, laptops, and external hard drives that may contain digital evidence in criminal investigations.

In addition to investigative work, Quinn will serve as a comfort and community support K-9 by participating in school visits, outreach events and other public programs aimed at strengthening community relationships, according to the police.

“K9 Quinn represents another step forward in our commitment to utilizing specialized tools and training to better serve and protect our community,” Chief Barberini says.
