A cane-swinging clash between two seniors in Stockton over the weekend escalated into a bizarre street showdown — and even involved a car — before police stepped in and arrested both men, police said.

Officers were called around 4:10 p.m. Saturday to the 700 block of East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in the Seaport District on reports of a physical altercation between two men who, despite their age, weren’t exactly acting retired from trouble.

The Stockton Police Department said the pair allegedly traded blows using a cane during the dispute. The chaos didn’t stop there: one of the men then allegedly tried to ram the other with a car, turning the fight into what officers treated as an assault with a deadly weapon case.

When officers arrived, both men were taken into custody. James Heard, 69, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. John Greathouse, 67, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

The department did not say what sparked the confrontation. No additional injuries were reported.
