Marin County is seeking applicants to fill two seats on the civilian commission that oversees the Sheriff’s Office, county officials said Thursday.
The openings are for representatives from Supervisorial Districts 1 and 4 on the nine-member Civilian Oversight Commission of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. Applications are open through May 24, with appointments expected this summer and new three-year terms beginning Aug. 1.
County officials said the commission was created to provide independent oversight of the Sheriff’s Office and help improve transparency, accountability and public trust.
Residents with community service experience — including those who have not previously served on county boards or commissions — are encouraged to apply.
The commission, formed in August 2025, has focused on building its governance structure and policies and is preparing to begin reviewing Sheriff’s Office policies and completed investigations in coordination with the county’s Office of the Inspector General. It is also expected to help develop an independent complaint process, conduct community outreach and issue public reports.
Applications will be reviewed by the Clerk of the Board and forwarded to supervisors for consideration at a public meeting later this year, county officials said.
