Napa County officials last week marked the completion of a new bridge along Dry Creek Road, connecting Oakville and Kenwood with a wider, safer crossing.
One lane of the new bridge opened to two-way traffic on Friday, with full two-lane access expected in early May, weather permitting.
Federal, state, and county officials marked the $11 million bridge project’s completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday.
An estimated 800 motorists per day have relied on a 100-year-old, one-lane bridge, said Napa County Supervisor Liz Alessio.
“Replacing a structure that could fail in a major earthquake and removing two sharp curves along this stretch of Dry Creek Road improves safety for drivers and supports faster emergency response times,” Alessio said.
The project includes 900 feet of new roadway and an 80-foot bridge over Dry Creek, located approximately 0.8 miles west of Mt. Veeder Road.
Funding for the project was provided through the Federal Highway Administration’s Highway Bridge Program, along with Napa County Measure T sales tax revenue and General Fund dollars.
