Two trails in the Presidio of San Francisco will temporarily be off-limits to dog-walkers starting Friday for the start of the coyote pupping season.

The Presidio Trust announced Monday that segments of the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail will remain closed through October to minimize conflict between humans, dogs, and coyotes, who are more protective of their territories during this season.

According to a news release from the Presidio Trust, the Park Trail closure extends from Mountain Lake to the Presidio Promenade, and the Bay Area Ridge Trail is closed from the Rob Hill Campground to the Presidio Golf Course.

On- and off-leash dogs are prohibited from these sections of the two trails.

All visitors are expected to dispose of their trash only in designated trash receptacles and share information about coyote sightings with the Trust to prevent human contact with coyotes.

The Trust will host a gathering to educate the community about coyotes on April 12 at the Crissy Field Center.
