Crews in Santa Cruz County rushed to a fire early Wednesday morning to find themselves battling flames at one of their own stations, according to Cal Fire.
Crews from Cal Fire’s San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit, the Santa Cruz County Fire Department, and the Felton Fire Protection District responded around 4:45 a.m. to reports of a fire at the McDermott Fire Station on Empire Grade Road. When they arrived, firefighters found a water tender — a truck used to carry water — on fire outside the station.
The fire was contained to the water tender, sparing the station, but the building sustained smoke and water damage, according to Cal Fire.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was not immediately confirmed.
