The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Monday calls for warm conditions with sunny skies during the day and mostly clear skies at night.
Daytime highs will be mostly in the low to mid 80s on the coast, mid to high 80s around the bay and inland. Overnight lows will be mostly in the mid 50s to low 60s.
A heat wave arrives across the Bay Area on Monday as a strong ridge of high pressure moves toward the California coast, bringing unusually warm temps and dry offshore winds, forecasters say. Temps are expected to reach the mid- to upper-80s inland and the 70s along the coast, where a shallow marine layer remains.
Forecasters say the hot, dry weather and offshore winds could increase grass-fire concerns, though green spring vegetation reduces the risk compared with summer.
The hot weather is expected to persist through the week as the high-pressure system continues to dominate the region’s weather pattern, according to the NWS.
