Three South Bay men are facing felony charges for allegedly assaulting two men outside a restaurant on San Jose’s Santana Row last week — an attack that’s also being investigated as a possible hate crime.
Bruneil Henry Chamaki, 32, of Morgan Hill, along with Roma Akoyans, 20, and Ramon Akoyans, 18, of San Jose, all face one count each of felony assault, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
In addition, Chamaki was charged with misdemeanor battery, according to prosecutors.
The three are accused of attacking two men on March 8 in front of Augustine’s restaurant following an exchange of words.
In addition to the physical assault, one of the victims said he heard someone utter an antisemitic epithet and a witness said one of the suspects yelled something about Iran as they were running away after the attack, according to a San Jose police report.
“We won’t tolerate pummeling a victim on the ground in front of a restaurant or anywhere, and we will hold the perpetrators fully accountable,” said District Attorney Jeff Rosen. “Our public spaces have to be safe for all to enjoy without fear.”
The charges don’t include anything related to the possible hate crime, but District Attorney’s Office officials said the investigation is ongoing and such charges might be possible in the future.
Anyone with information is asked to call the San Jose Police Department at (408) 277- 4161.
All three suspects are scheduled for an arraignment on May 12 at 1:30 p.m. in the Hall of Justice in San Jose.
