Rapper Kamaiyah celebrated the anniversary of her breakthrough mixtape Saturday by turning Oakland’s Fox Theater into a hometown party with featured performances from local hip hop artists like E-40 and G-Eazy.

Saturday marked 10 years since the release of “A Good Night in the Ghetto,” Kamaiyah’s debut mixtape that brought her into the national spotlight.

“I was just starting my career,” she said in an interview. “Me and my friends were just having fun.”

For Kamaiyah, her concert at Fox Theater was a homecoming, returning to the city that shaped her sound. The show also made her the first female rapper from the Bay Area to headline the Fox Theater.

“When you come home, it ain’t unfamiliar territory or energy,” she said. “We’re going to all be on the same vibration. You feel the music differently because you are a part of the culture that the music is coming from.”

Fox Theater was packed with fans eager to see the rapper, waiting with anticipation for Kamaiyah to start the show. Just before 10 p.m., the curtains opened revealing a set design of the front of an apartment building, similar to the one seen on the cover of “A Good Night in the Ghetto.”

The crowd roared as Kamaiyah entered the stage wearing sunglasses and a hoodie with her first initial “K” covering the back. She began with several songs from her first mixtape including “Come Back” and “Ain’t Goin Home” that were backed by a live band.

“We made it 10 years y’all,” she said to the crowd.

Kamaiyah also invited numerous Bay Area rappers to her show, who each performed one or two songs for the crowd. Local rap artists Bosslife Big Spence, Lil Kayla, Young Bari, and 1 Umbrella took to the stage for surprise performances. Detroit rapper Sada Baby also came out to rap a few songs.
The crowd roared with excitement as Bay Area rapper E-40 performed his hit song “Tell Me When to Go,” while Oakland native G-Eazy rapped his song “No Limit.”

Kamaiyah ended her set performing two of her hit songs, “How Does It Feel” and “F— It Up,” concluding a night filled with nostalgia and surprise performances.
“Congratulations to everything you’ve done,” G-Eazy said to Kamaiyah on stage. “You’re a legend, you’re an icon.”
