Solano County’s long-serving treasurer-tax collector-county clerk will retire at the end of this year.
Chuck Lomeli served in the role for 28 years and is retiring after more than three decades in public service, according to a news release from the County Administrator’s Office.
“Serving this community has been the honor of my professional life,” Lomeli said in a statement. “I remain deeply grateful for the trust the residents of Solano County have placed in me over the years.”
Lomeli endorsed assistant treasurer-tax collector-clerk Denise Dix in her bid to win election to replace him in the role.
The multi-faceted role combines three distinct county government functions that are sometimes split, depending on the county.
In Solano County, the role is responsible for overseeing tax collection, issuing marriage licenses and performing ceremonies, and filing alternative names for businesses operating in the county, known as “fictitious business names” or “doing business as” names.
It also oversees the county’s finances and spending in its role as Treasurer, according to the county’s website.
Lomeli oversaw a technological transformation at the divisions he led, modernizing internal systems and creating online payment tools to make interacting with the county more efficient, the county’s statement said.
He also pushed for more security for records as they went online and navigated the financial turmoil brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Lomeli praised the staff in the treasurer-tax collector-county clerk divisions.
“None of this work happens without a committed team,” Lomeli said. “The strength of this department comes from the professionalism, institutional knowledge, and dedication of the people who serve here every day. Their commitment has ensured that residents receive reliable service, even during the most challenging times, and they deserve the credit for the success and reputation this office has earned.”
His last day will be Dec. 28.
