The Santa Rosa City Council has awarded a $4.7 million construction contract for improvements along Hopper Avenue, advancing recovery efforts in the Coffey Park neighborhood following the 2017 Tubbs Fire, according to an announcement Thursday.
The contract was awarded Feb. 24 to Argonaut Contractors of Santa Rosa for the Hopper Avenue Corridor Improvements Project, city officials said.
Construction is expected to begin this spring.
Hopper Avenue, which connects Coffey Park in northwest Santa Rosa to Highway 101, was heavily damaged during the October 2017 wildfires and subsequent debris removal.
In 2021, the city dedicated a portion of PG&E settlement funds to support rebuilding the corridor.
City officials said the project design was shaped by community meetings and online surveys and reflects residents’ priorities for a safer, more accessible, multimodal roadway.
The improvements are intended to restore a key transportation link, provide safer routes to businesses and the highway, and encourage increased transit, bicycle and pedestrian use, a news release noted.
City officials said the project is one of the city’s final remaining fire-recovery infrastructure efforts tied to the Tubbs Fire.
More information is available on the city’s website.
