Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee’s city-issued vehicle was stolen from City Hall on Tuesday but the mayor’s office and police officials aren’t releasing many details.

When asked about the theft of the mayor’s SUV, Oakland police said the car was recovered within hours and they are following up on potential leads. No other details were provided.

“No one in Oakland should have to worry about their car being stolen, whether they’re a resident, a city worker, or the Mayor,” Lee said in an email Wednesday. “Public safety is a priority across our entire city.”

“As with criminal cases such as this, the Oakland Police Department is actively investigating, and we cannot comment further at this time,” Lee said.
