San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has unveiled a new online permitting portal aimed at making it faster and easier for residents and businesses to secure city approvals without visiting City Hall, the Mayor’s Office announced.
The PermitSF portal, which launched Friday, will initially offer five permit types, including permits for replacing doors, windows and siding, as well as for fire alarms and sprinkler systems, according to a press release issued Thursday.
Applicants will be able to submit materials, communicate with staff, and pay fees online.
City officials said the platform eliminates the need for in-person visits to the Permit Center for those permit types and allows users to track and manage applications remotely.
The portal is part of the mayor’s broader PermitSF initiative, launched last year to streamline the city’s permitting process.
The city is rolling out the system in phases in partnership with software provider OpenGov, with plans to expand the number of permits available online, including residential remodels, business signage, and more complex development projects, city officials said.
Officials said permit applicants may still seek in-person assistance at the Permit Center, where staff will provide support for both digital and traditional applications.
