Marin County’s Clean Slate program brings an array of legal services directly to residents in their own neighborhoods, and this month the pop-up event will come to Marin City.
On Feb. 26, a Clean Slate event is set for 4-6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, 101 Donahue St.
Over the past four years, the late-afternoon walk-up events give individuals previously involved in the justice system a way to seal or expunge their criminal records. Expungement gives a fresh start to those who have completed their sentences and remained crime-free.
People seeking to clear one’s record, terminate probation, or dismiss a conviction will be able to walk up with documentation and speak directly to a representative from the county Public Defender’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office or the Probation Department.
The Marin County Department of Health and Human Services will be on hand for assistance with public benefits such as Medi-Cal, CalFresh food assistance, CalWORKs services, employment training, and general financial relief for families. The Marin County Department of Child Support Services will also be available to assist parents or custodians who have questions about an existing child custody case, modifying an order or establishing parentage or child support.
Those seeking law-related help are asked to bring all relevant documents with them, including past correspondences and state Department of Justice records. Each participating department will have Spanish translators on hand to help with health or immigration-related relief.
For questions about the event related to legal services, contact the Public Defender’s Office at (415) 473-6321. For questions about health services, contact HHS at (415) 473-3350.
