San Mateo County elections officials are offering a candidate filing seminar later this week for people interested in running for office in the June statewide primary election.
The seminar, hosted by the San Mateo County Registration and Elections Division, is designed to guide potential candidates through the filing process and explain how voter and election data can be used for campaigns and voter education.
The session will be held Thursday, at 2 p.m. and will be offered both online and in person at the county elections office at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo. Those interested can register online or email CandidateServices@smcacre.gov
Chief Elections Officer Mark Church said the dual format is meant to make the seminar more accessible. He said the in-person option may be especially helpful for first-time candidates who have questions or want to meet elections staff.
Church said the seminar will cover key filing deadlines, candidate requirements, candidate statements, campaign finance reporting and voter data reports. All seminars are open to the public.
People who want to attend must register online or by email and provide their name, the office they are seeking and the number of attendees. Those who register will receive an email with a link to the virtual meeting.
Election officials also noted that early voting for the June election will begin May 4. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters in early May, and three vote centers will open for in-person voting that day, with more opening closer to Election Day.
